Thomas H. Bascom, MD, FACS
Dr. Bascom was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and was raised in Eugene, where he has practiced surgery since 1991. He has a broad practice in general and vascular surgery with a special interest in colon and rectal surgery.
Education
Dr. Bascom did his undergraduate coursework in biology and earned his medical degree at the University of Washington in Seattle. He completed his general surgery residency in Madison, Wisconsin, under Dr. Folkert Baelzer, then trained in colon and rectal surgery under Mr. Hamish Thomson at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in England. Dr. Bascom was a clinical instructor of vascular surgery at the VA Hospital in Madison.

Certified by The American Board of Surgery, Dr. Bascom is a member of the Northwest Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons, Oregon Medical Association and the Lane County Medical Society. He and his father John Bascom, M.D., Ph.D. have been pioneers in pilonidal surgery techniques; together, they have published articles and lectured on the topic, and they offer innovative solutions for failed or recurrent pilonidal problems.

Dr. Bascom and his wife, Sarah, have three children. In his spare time, he enjoys tending to his backyard chicken coop, backcountry skiing, bicycling and gardening.
Philanthropy
Dr. Bascom is a board member for the Uganda Fistula Fund, an organization dedicated to the prevention, repair and rehabilitation of women in Uganda with fistula. He’s also serves on the capital campaign advisory board for Eugene Civic Alliance and is an active volunteer for public schools. He has served as an Oregon Bach Festival board member, as well as campaign co-chair for the Eugene Education Fund, and dedicated time and effort to the El Salvador Clinic.
