We enjoy spending our free time with our family and friends. We love cooking and hosting. We love going on bike rides with the whole family.
Park/play area/hangout:
You can find us at Crescent Park on most sunny days.
Restaurants:
The kids could eat Huli Huli chicken from Hawaiian Times seven days per week. Agrarian is our favorite place to go with the kids to eat. When we get a chance to go out alone, we like Tacovore and Sabai.
Vacation destination:
We love to go to Sunriver and Hood River. We love Ka’anapali in Maui for a big trip!
Sports teams:
Tyler is an Oregon Ducks fan. He has conditioned Lily and Hayden to be the same.
TV show/movie:
Katelyn loves to watch reruns of shows like Friends and Big Bang Theory. Lily and Hayden enjoy watching the Magic School Bus and Paw Patrol. Tyler has really gotten into HBO shows like The Leftovers and Westworld.
Music:
A little bit of everything, though we mostly listen to audiobooks and podcasts.
Family dinner:
Pork chops, applesauce, and green beans (often from Johnson’s Farm) is our favorite dinner.
Where are you originally from?
We were both born and raised in Eugene. We met at Marist High School and started dating our senior year. We’ve been together for 14 years now, and we’re so glad to be back home.
What college/university did you attend?
Out of high school, we decided to attend different colleges. Katelyn went to Seattle Pacific University, while Tyler went to George Fox. We spent every weekend traveling to see each other, and after a year, Tyler transferred to Seattle Pacific. After undergraduate, we both attended Oregon Health and Science University for our doctorates.
How long have you lived in the neighborhood?
We have always loved the North Gilham neighborhood, and we were able to buy in the neighborhood in June of 2016.
Do you have any family traditions?
We love to play games as a family – currently, Clue, Sorry, and the card game Hand and Foot top our list. We also enjoy family trips, including the parents and in-laws. We’re lucky to have a wonderful extended family that has a lot of fun traveling together.
What do you like to do to relax?
Katelyn enjoys Barre3 classes, board games, and craft projects. Tyler likes to work in the yard.
How are you involved in the community?
We stay involved through our church, school, and volunteer clinics.
What activities are your kids involved with?
Lily takes dance at ZAPP and does sports through her school. Hayden loves Crescent Park, digging in the backyard, and going around the neighborhood in his red wagon.
What is your favorite part about living in your neighborhood?
We love the community. We felt welcomed and cared for from the first day we moved in. We know our neighbors much more than we ever did before. People are outside on the sidewalks often – exercising, heading to the park, or walking to get coffee or pizza. There’s a mix of generations and just a nice sense of community here. People look out for one another. It’s a great neighborhood!
