Cancer
Whether you or your loved one has been diagnosed with colon or rectal cancer, this can be a scary time. Specialists are here to make that journey a little easier and all of our physicians operate on the colon and can perform these lifesaving surgeries.
Both general and colorectal surgeons are experts in colon cancer. Some of our surgeons have done additional training in order to tackle the most technically challenging surgeries, including cutting edge technology like the use of robotic assisted surgery. If you are a candidate for these newer techniques, our company works to ensure you are matched with the appropriate surgeon.
Our surgeons participate in multiple ongoing local and national quality initiatives. We constantly track ease of recovery following surgery, infection rates, and cancer survival. In fact, we have been nationally recognized for high quality care and outcomes. For example, Dr. David DeHaas was nationally published for work in decreasing rates of infection.
Through this quality tracking as well as constant review of medical literature, we have developed a program of Enhanced Recovery after Surgery (ERAS) for all patients undergoing colon and rectal surgery. This program includes the most up to date strategies for best outcomes. Prior to your surgery, you will be asked to watch a video detailing this program. Watch Colorectal Pathway Part 1, Colorectal Pathway Part 2 and FAQ for Colorectal Pathway.
We also collaborate with local radiologists, pathologists, medical and radiation oncologists, as well as gastroenterologists in GI Tumor Board where your individual case is discussed in a multidisciplinary fashion. Providers in this community are committed to a team approach to your care and are members of the Oregon Cancer Alliance.
We strive to provide you with as many resources as possible to make the journey a bit easier. There are a variety of wonderful companies and organizations specifically dedicated to cancer patients in our community. These include:
